A Time To Flee
The Lord is gracious to give us visuals in the things we can see to help us understand the spirit realm we can’t see. During the tsunami of 2004, well over 200,000 people were killed. We learned that the animals instinctively knew to get to higher ground and were spared. Humans, some enjoying a day in the sun, stayed put. It wasn’t sin to stay put, but it led to destruction. They didn’t know to flee. None of us would have.
Throughout Scripture we are told to be strong and courageous. 1 Corinthians 15:58 says,
“Therefore, my beloved brothers,
be steadfast, immovable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord,
knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.”
1 Corinthians 16:13 (NKJV) exhorts us,
“Watch,
stand fast in the faith,
be brave, be strong.”
Psalm 27:14 reminds us that our strength and courage come from Him,
“Wait on the LORD;
Be of good courage,
And He shall strengthen your heart;
Wait, I say, on the LORD!”
That sounds as if we’re to face everything and run from nothing. But Scripture actually lets us know that there are things to run from in order to remain spiritually immovable in the Lord. Like the animals that knew instinctively to get to higher ground to survive, the Lord has told us in His Word exactly what to flee. We must flee false teaching rather than entertaining it as is happening in many churches today. We must flee all kinds of sin, pride, idolatry, and sexual immorality. Lord, wake us up to the horrors that staying put will bring, and help us flee temptation that we might stand! Thank You for giving us Your wisdom in Your Word.
