Premature Lot Casting

In Mark 14-16 we read of Jesus allowing men to betray, capture, try, and kill Him. They mocked and spit on Him. It’s hard to read, especially knowing He did it for us. Something interesting jumps out in Mark 15:24 that should wake us up today,

“And they crucified him and divided his garments among them,

casting lots for them,

to decide what each should take.”

They were deciding what each one would get, because they thought He wasn’t coming back.

But as we recently celebrated, He did come back when He rose from the dead, just as He said! Not only that, He promises to come again. Yet some are rolling the dice in living today as if He’s not coming back. They treat all that God has made, as something that belongs to us. But Christ is returning with such amazing glory that no one will miss it. And He will be claiming what’s His. Now, that’s a campaign I can get excited about.

He’ll be coming from heaven with His mighty angels…

“…in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God

and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction,

away from the presence of the Lord

and from the glory of his might,

when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints,

and to be marveled at among all who have believed,

because our testimony to you was believed.”
2 Thessalonians 1:8-10

Don’t hedge your bets. He is coming to be marveled at. Lord, teach us to prepare the way for your arrival including our own hearts!
