Powerful Submission
In the movie Taken, Liam Neeson is known for having a “particular set of skills.” Because of his expertise, when his daughter needs rescue everyone wanting a positive result submits to his instruction. The stakes were too high to allow pride, arrogance, or “I don’t feel like it,” to come into play.
How much more should we be submitting to the King of kings who is unfolding a rescue mission of incomparable proportion? James 4:7 says,
“Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
There is no skill, wisdom, or expertise that compares to our God. What an indescribable privilege to have access through Christ. Do we realize how high the spiritual stakes are? To serve the Lord our own way or in our own wisdom would be disastrous. Our submission to God affects not only our own rescue, but that of others. We need Him orchestrating.
Our enemy, Satan, aims to wreak havoc and destroy wherever he can. One tactic is to distract us with sin or even “good” things, so we never quite get around to hearing and obeying God. He can tempt us with pride and arrogance so we imagine we can go it alone, without the help of the One who created us. But by laying down our lives and submitting to the skill, wisdom, and expertise of God, He is glorified and much is accomplished.
No one can stop the Lord. Meditate on the verse below and ask the Lord to help us hear and obey as He allows us to participate in the wondrous things He is doing; the stunning rescues He has in store.
“Behold, I am the LORD,
the God of all flesh.
Is anything too hard for me?”
Jeremiah 32:27
