Journeying in Genesis: Listen to Jesus and Pray for Light

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

The earth was without form and void,

and darkness was over the face of the deep.

And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”

Genesis 1:1-3

We could stay on the first day of creation from now until eternity and not exhaust the treasures it holds. Last time we considered what voice we’re listening to – the One that can speak light into existence, or the voice of transgression that leads to darkness? No wonder the Father made it clear as recorded in Mark 9:7,

“And a cloud came and overshadowed them;

and a voice came out of the cloud, saying,

‘This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!’”

Listen to Jesus! John 1:4 says of Him,

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

Light reveals what’s really there; what’s really going on. Light cleanses. Light brings relief from fear. Light exposes. Light accomplishes so much including the way to go. John 14:6 tells us that Jesus is the only way to the Father. He is the light that brings the joy of salvation!

As we think about light and life, when a human egg is fertilized there’s a flash of light as an enzyme hits zinc in the egg. It’s an indicator of life. Our Creator takes my breath away. I’ve even begun to pray “let there be light” over couples wanting a baby.

Just as we’ve learned to pray, “Lord, hover!” over our hearts, loved ones, and situations, let’s also pray, “Lord, let there be light!” over our hearts, loved ones, and situations. Lord, remove blinders and provide sight. Cleanse. Restore. Lead.

Jesus, our magnificent Light of Life, praise You for coming!
