Getty Up Part VIII: Spiritual Laziness Causes Us To Miss Out

We probably all battle a bit of FOMO in various ways. But there is something we should be sure we aren’t missing. Proverbs 13:4 says,

“The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing,

while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.”

The effort we put into our relationship with Christ makes all the difference. If we’re lazy in that, we’ll be missing out on what really matters. If we’re diligent in it, we’ll enjoy the spiritual blessings in Christ, even if life is hard. Psalm 37:4 reminds us that if we put our efforts into delighting in the Lord, our desires will be fulfilled, because He renews our desires to align with His. Spiritual laziness simply causes us to miss out on the best.

There are all kinds of excuses in this busy, crazy, frantic world as to why we don’t have the time or energy for a relationship with the Lord; to actually do what He tells us. Yet Proverbs 20:4 says,

“The sluggard does not plow in the autumn;

he will seek at harvest and have nothing.”

If we wait until we feel like doing what’s right, that day may never come. I can usually think of a lot of things I’d rather do than the next right thing. But if we refuse to plow, or whatever it is, we will miss out on the harvest. Today and every day is the right time to get into God’s Word and remain in an attitude of prayer and worship. If we will work, study, rest, or play as unto the Lord, we won’t be missing out on the best.

“Therefore,

whether you eat or drink,

or whatever you do,

do all to the glory of God.”

1 Corinthians 10:31
