Avoiding False and Lethal Illusions
One day I was reading in my car waiting for my daughter’s practice to end. I had moved to the passenger’s side for more room. Imagine my panic when it appeared my car was rolling forward. In reality, the car next to me was backing up. It was a momentary illusion. Things are not always as they seem.
When it comes to spiritual things, we cannot afford to fall for false illusions. There are examples in Scripture of people guessing wrongly about Jesus. It happens today and it’s a mistake we cannot afford to make. In Matthew 14 Herod informed his servants that Jesus was John the Baptist risen from the dead. Later in the chapter the disciples were in a boat, and Jesus came walking on the sea. They cried out that Jesus was a ghost.
Acts 4:12 says,
“And there is salvation in no one else,
for there is no other name under heaven given among men
by which we must be saved.”
We have got to know and see Jesus as He truly is, because there is no salvation in a false Christ. He is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. He’s the Bright and Morning Star and the Conqueror over sin. He binds wickedness ands sets the captives free. He has compassion on the weary and causes blind eyes to see. We know who He truly is through His Word. He wants to walk closely with His followers, so that we grow in our knowledge and awe of Him; knowing His voice and not following another. Let’s stay in His Word to get to know Him, so we don’t fall for inaccurate descriptions of who He is.
