Journeying in Genesis: Setting Up A Showdown

“And God saw that the light was good.

And God separated the light from the darkness.

God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.

And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.”

Genesis 1:4-5

This took place before God made the sun, moon, or stars. On Day One, God set up a showdown.

Look how strategically the beginning of Genesis aligns with John 1:1-5,

“In the beginning was the Word,

and the Word was with God,

and the Word was God.

He was in the beginning with God.

All things were made through him,

and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

The light shines in the darkness,

and the darkness has not overcome it.”

Darkness will lose. Jesus is the Victor! God has ordained a magnificent plan that cannot be stopped, and we’re living in it. We see the horror of those who choose to remain in darkness, rather than receiving the light of the Gospel. John 3:19 explains,

“And this is the condemnation,

that the light has come into the world,

and men loved darkness rather than light,

because their deeds were evil.”

Choose light! Choose life! Let’s honor the One who offers us salvation with Daniel 2:20-22,

“Daniel answered and said:

‘Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,

to whom belong wisdom and might.

He changes times and seasons;

he removes kings and sets up kings;

he gives wisdom to the wise

and knowledge to those who have understanding;

he reveals deep and hidden things;

he knows what is in the darkness,

and the light dwells with him.’”
