Journeying in Genesis: Children of the Day

Before leaving creation day one, let’s highlight an important distinction.

“God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.

And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.”

Genesis 1:5

1 Thessalonians 5:5 says of those in Christ,

“For you are all children of light, children of the day.

We are not of the night or of the darkness.”

In context, this is speaking of the return of Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11 goes on to say,

“For God has not destined us for wrath,

but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up,

just as you are doing.”

We have a choice to make. Jeremiah 13:16 warns,

“Give glory to the LORD your God

before he brings darkness,

before your feet stumble

on the twilight mountains,

and while you look for light

he turns it into gloom

and makes it deep darkness.”

2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 warns those who refuse to love and believe the truth, that God will send them strong delusion. This is in the context of the coming of the “instead of Jesus” (antichrist), not of the true Christ. Jesus makes it clear in John 8:12,

“I am the light of the world.

He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness,

but have the light of life.”

John 8:12

Lord, let there be light! Please open spiritual eyes to see.
