Our Glorious Passover

Painting by Ann Wood

Passover begins at sundown.

Thousands of years ago, Yahweh used the deliverance of His people from Egypt to help us better understand the eternal deliverance He would provide through the death and resurrection of His Son. Exodus tells of the need for the blood of a lamb on the doorpost and lentil to avoid death. It foretold of the need to be covered by the blood of Christ. Exodus 12:13 says,

“Now the blood shall be a sign for you

on the houses where you are.

And when I see the blood,

I will pass over you;

and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you

when I strike the land of Egypt.”

God will justly pour out His wrath on sin and evil. That day is coming. He has lovingly provided a way for us to be delivered! And we all need it. Romans 3:23 says,

“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”

One of my favorite phrases is “…when I see the blood…” It reminds me of my eternal safety through Christ. We will never be good enough to save ourselves. For those who submit to the Gospel and trust Christ as their Savior…His blood is applied. When God looks at believers, He sees the blood of His Son. 1 Corinthians 5:7b says,

“For indeed Christ,

our Passover,

was sacrificed for us.”

What a God. What a plan. What love and sacrifice! The King of the universe humbled Himself to be born human to be the ultimate Passover Lamb. As the sun goes down tonight, may we all be reminded to pay honor and give thanks to Christ our Lamb and King who took on death and darkness that we might live in His life and light.
