Believing His Promises: 2 Corinthians 4:17-18

We are aiming to hear and believe God’s promises. I don’t know about you, but I got severely tested in believing Romans 8:28 after our last post. He is good to provide us opportunity to exercise our spiritual muscles even through tears.

I had been praying about whether the Lord had a specific promise for me to believe. Ask Him if there is one He would like to highlight in your life. The one I felt like He highlighted for me is from 2 Corinthians 4:17-18,

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment,

is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,

while we do not look at the things which are seen,

but at the things which are not seen.

For the things which are seen are temporary,

but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

It’s hard to understand how some horrors can be thought of as “light.” As the Lord comforts us in our grief and affliction, He is not making light of what we go through. He is saying, it does not compare to what it’s producing. What if we believed that?

In True to His Word Jon Bloom writes, “Coming to Jesus for rest doesn’t shield us from affliction. It transforms afflictions from fear-dominating, anxiety-producing, and helpless to ‘light’ and ‘momentary.’ Hoping in the God of hope makes all the difference.”

What if we, as God’s children through Christ, chose to hear and believe with great hope that the hard things He allows are working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory? Let’s encourage each other in this. He is good, kind, and worthy to be believed. He loves to show Himself strong on behalf of His own.
